Really loved reading this post, Chelsea! It's been so interesting to see how some of us have found new ways to blossom during this mandatory shift in society (while, in many cases, other or other parts of us have languished). I learned how to be calm for the first time these last nearly-two years... and I don't want to lose that. Really lovely to see that Pan has kept his newfound self as he's headed back into in-person school!
I love this, and have been thinking similar thoughts but about grown ups. How the parents I knew were just a snapshot of a very stressful time of their adult lives, and so far from who they were before I was born or since I left. How who I am now is a product of some choices I made + some experiences outside of my control, but not a manifestation of my whole self or potential. It’s hard to imagine changing, but easier to take little steps to change.
Separately, have you seen Inside Out? The shifting identity thing is explored though a beautiful visual metaphor, and it’s very exciting, as the story winds up, to realize none of us are on solid ground.
Yes! Experiencing this right now is absolutely helping me feel a deeper empathy for the grown-ups I engaged with as a child. And yes - I've seen that movie, but it's been a while! I should re-watch, but I remember thinking that it was a pretty revolutionary theme to bring to the screen for a young audience, and so needed. Xx
Thank you for the good and sweet sharing ❤️
As a mom of an 8 year old this was so helpful to read

Thank you for this delicious piece of writing Chelsea. I'm savoring my little big guy walking a similar path and this let me soak into it even more.
Your writing is lovely, daughter! Thanks for sharing your life! :)
Thanks mom!
